A Russian drone attack on the Black Sea port city of Odesa overnight injured three people, sparked fires and damaged homes and civilian infrastructure, regional governor Oleh Kiper said. Russia's Ministry of Defence said its units destroyed 26 Ukrainian drones overnight. Nine of the drones were shot down over the southern Voronezh region, while eight were taken down over the border region of Belgorod. The remaining drones were downed over the Kursk, Lipetsk and Moscow regions, as well as over the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula, the ministry said. The Defence Ministry also said Russia has taken control of Kalynove village in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region.

North Korean troops in Ukraine 'fair game', US warns Russia as war rages on

Al Jazeera

United States defence secretary Lloyd Austin has waded in on reports that North Korea was preparing to enter the Ukraine war with troops. "If they are co-belligerents, if their intention is to participate in this war on Russia's behalf, that is a very, very serious issue," Austin said. Austin was returning from his fourth visit to Kyiv, where he announced a 400m package of US weapons for Ukraine. John Kirby, White House national security spokesman, said Washington believes that at least 3,000 North Korean soldiers arrived this month by sea to Vladivostok, Russia's largest Pacific port. "These soldiers then travelled onward to multiple Russian military training sites in eastern Russia, where they are currently undergoing training," Kirby said on Wednesday.

Ukraine strikes key Russian explosives manufacturer, general staff says

Al Jazeera

Ukraine has struck a manufacturer of military explosives deep inside Russian territory overnight, as well as storage infrastructure at a military airfield in the Lipetsk region, Kyiv's General Staff has said in a statement. For their part, Russian air defence units downed 110 Ukrainian drones over the country, Russia's Ministry of Defence said Sunday, including one over the Moscow region, 43 over the border region of Kursk, and 27 over the southwestern Lipetsk region. The Russian SHOT Telegram channel reported that drones attempted to strike the Ya. The explosives plant, one of the largest manufacturers of its kind used by Russian forces in the war that Moscow launched against Ukraine in February 2022, is subject to sanctions by the United States and the European Union. Such large-scale aerial attacks are still relatively rare on Russia. Kyiv's General Staff said in a post on Telegram the Sverdlov factory had been making chemical components for artillery ammunition and aerial bombs, adding that it was still assessing the damage from its attack.

Ukraine launched a series of drones targeting Moscow and western Russia, according to regional officials. Russian air defence units downed 110 Ukrainian drones over Russia, the Ministry of Defence said, including one over the Moscow region, 43 over the border region of Kursk, and 27 over the southwestern Lipetsk region. Russia's air defence units destroyed at least one drone flying towards the capital, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on the Telegram messaging app, while drone debris sparked several short-lived fires in Lipetsk, the regional governor said on the app. No injuries or significant damage were reported from the attacks. Four firefighters suffered minor shrapnel wounds in a Ukrainian drone attack in an industrial zone in the city of Dzerzhinsk in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region, the regional governor said.

'Putin is vindictive': Russia pounds Ukraine as Kyiv pursues Kursk assault

Al Jazeera

Kyiv, Ukraine – Russia's aerial attack on Ukraine was colossal. Moving in waves from several directions and at different speeds and heights, 127 missiles and 109 drones attacked 15 of Ukraine's 24 regions. The attack is being seen in Ukraine as Russian President Vladimir Putin's revenge for Kyiv's daring incursion into the western Russian region of Kursk that began in early August and has resulted in the apparent takeover of more than 1,000sq kilometres (386sq miles). "He is a vindictive person, he got offended," General Lieutenant Ihor Romanenko, ex-deputy head of the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces, told Al Jazeera. The attack began in predawn darkness on Monday as buzzing swarms of explosives-laden heavy drones took off from the Azov Sea town of Yeisk in southwestern Russia.

Robust Load Prediction of Power Network Clusters Based on Cloud-Model-Improved Transformer

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Load data from power network clusters indicates economic development in each area, crucial for predicting regional trends and guiding power enterprise decisions. The Transformer model, a leading method for load prediction, faces challenges modeling historical data due to variables like weather, events, festivals, and data volatility. To tackle this, the cloud model's fuzzy feature is utilized to manage uncertainties effectively. Presenting an innovative approach, the Cloud Model Improved Transformer (CMIT) method integrates the Transformer model with the cloud model utilizing the particle swarm optimization algorithm, with the aim of achieving robust and precise power load predictions. Through comparative experiments conducted on 31 real datasets within a power network cluster, it is demonstrated that CMIT significantly surpasses the Transformer model in terms of prediction accuracy, thereby highlighting its effectiveness in enhancing forecasting capabilities within the power network cluster sector.

Formations organization in robotic swarm using the thermal motion equivalent method

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Due to its decentralised, distributed and scalable nature, swarm robotics has great potential for applications ranging from agriculture to environmental monitoring and logistics. Various swarm control methods and algorithms are currently known, such as virtual leader, vector and potential field, and others. Such methods often show good results in specific conditions and tasks. The variety of tasks solved by the swarm requires the development of a universal control algorithm. In this paper, we propose an evolution of a thermal motion equivalent method (TMEM) inspired by the behavioural similarity of thermodynamic interactions between molecules. Previous research has shown the high efficiency of such a method for terrain monitoring tasks. This work addresses the problem of swarm formation of geometric structures, as required for logistics and formation movement tasks. It is shown that the formation of swarm geometric structures using the TMEM is possible with a special nonlinear interaction function of the agents. A piecewise linear interaction function is proposed that allows the formation of a stable group of agents. The results of the paper are validated by numerical modelling of the swarm dynamics. A linear quadrocopter model is considered as an agent. The fairness of the choice of the interaction function is shown.
